James Fradgley’s talk

Thanks to James for another great talk on Wednesday. His ‘Origins of the Solar System’ was certainly thought provoking and calculated to shake some of our long held assumptions. AnotherĀ  good evening rounded off with Bud’s Jupiter images. Don’t forget the drinks and nibbles for our December Christmas meeting.

Clear skies,

Ron

  1. It’s about Rod’s Jupiter image (which I’ve seen elsewhere on your website).
Rod – I’ve been imaging Jupiter recently with a DMK mono camera like yours and a clour filter wheel. I note that you have used LRGB to process the image as I did at first. However, I found RGB gave better results for planets. Did you try that?

  2. Hi Alan, I’ve been trying all sorts of combinations – even IR in the colour stack just to see what happens! Lately though, I’ve been imaging with just the RGB filters as I didn’t think there was enough contrast in the L image to bring out any edges. Mind you, the seeing of late has been poor so I’m just holding out for that one night when it all happens….

  3. The seeing on the nights of 18th and 20th November was so good I reckoned it was the best ever (for me). See under member images-Solar system on the WAS website. The jetstream was very favourable to us at the time.
