Welcome back Arthur! It was great to see Arthur back with us after his medical break.
And didn’t ‘Prof’ Bill Read do well. Excellent presentation Bill! Thanks!
Thanks to Bud too, for sharing his wonderful Jupiter shots. Astounding. Thanks also to Adrian for his traditional unique Xmas quiz. Does anyone know who won?
Hope you’ll be at StargazingLIVE at Taunton racecourse on Thursday 10 January from 4.30. Get there early if you can as the traffic could be heavy.
Clear skies.

Floods? What floods? A record attendance for our 10th anniversary meeting! Of course, our speaker Guy Hurst might just have had something to do with it. Many thanks to Guy and Anne Hurst for their heroic efforts to make it through despite bad advice from a local trying to be helpful.
Guy’s talk on hunting novae and supernovae was, as expected, fascinating. Anyone for joining the Patrol? Just get in touch with Guy.
It was good to welcome our first time visitors; we hope you enjoyed the meeting.
Thanks are due to Bob Mizon for his ‘Objects of the month’, to Bill and Bud for sharing their images and to Mike Egan for his report on the Hershel ST talk by Dr Appleton.
Don’t forget to bring some goodies for our Christmas meeting!

A warm welcome to our new and potential members.
Many thanks to David Strange for his excellent astro-photography talk. What a range of brilliant images! This was inspirational stuff indeed. Thanks too to Bob for his sky tour and OOTM, which, for those not in the know stands for ‘Object of the month’.
And hasn’t Bill’s imaging come on leaps and bounds despite his battles with light pollution. Nice work Bill.
Hope everyone had a better trip home than Bob who practically had to paddle home all the way to Wimborne!
Clear skies,
Ron
p s Don’t forget to bring the ‘decorations’ for Zena next month!

During a brief visit to the UK, Dr. Phillip Appleton the Director of the Herschel Space Telescope NASA, will speak at West Buckland School on Friday 26 October at 7.30. All are welcome and there is no charge, although a donation for tea and biscuits would be appreciated.
This is a rare, perhaps unique opportunity to learn about ‘The Herschel’ from the person at the very heart of this project.
For more information please contact Andrew Watkinson -Trim at: awt@westbuckland.devon.sch.uk

This newly discovered comet is predicted to pass close to the sun. There is a possibility that it could put on a good show late in 2013. On the other hand, comets being what they are it might decide to do nothing of the sort! Still, something to keep an eye on.
